Art is Life-Life is Art: Connecting with Roopa Ravindran

Roopa Ravindran is a celebrated multi talented personna who donnes many roles of a Dansueuse, Actor, Choreographer and Arts Entrepreneur. Apart from these roles she actively involves herself in philanthropic activities teaching her art form to those who are less priviledged or differently abled. She is based in Bangalore but travels frequently nationally and internationally giving solo and group recitals in various Dance forms.She has been showered with many accolades throughout her illustrious carreer including Women Achiever’s award for her excellence in Arts(Kathak Dance) by WeLeed. Witnessing her performance is truly a mersmerising experience and is beyond expression through words. Let us get to know more about her through her own words below:

 1.Please tell us when and how you started off in the creative arena.

 My mother is my first inspiration and with her blessings I began dancing at the age of 13 years. 

 

2.Could you share some highlights of your formal and informal learning journey so far.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Kathak& Choreography under the tutelage of Guru Late Dr. Maya Rao, from Bangalore University.  I also completed my MA in Bharatnatyam from Bangalore University. I currently practice Kathak under Guru. Pt. RajendraGangani from Delhi Kathak Kendra. I have been trained in a multitude of other forms including Bharatnatyam, Kalaripayattu, Capoiera, Ritualistic folk dances. I did a Yoga course (YIC) from S-VYASA University – Bangalore.

I have also learnt when I acted in films as a child artist in more than 12 feauture films and later  also as lead actor in Art films. I have had the opportunity to be the current brand ambassador of KS&DL, Mysore Sandal Soaps in Karnatakaand Khadi Gram Udyog, Jharkhand. Learning happens through everything all the time when I remain aware and conscious.


3.What is your favourite work done so far?

I love most of my Dance Ballet Compositions as they are created by all our team’s effort with heart and soul. I enjoy all my different creative roles in acting opportunities as well.In September 2018, I received Best Actress award for my performance in a short Kannada Film “Sangaati”.

 

4.Tell us briefly about your Institute.

The search for a truly Indian way of teaching and learning Indian dance, Drama ,Music and Yoga, led to foundation of  EARTHA- Elements of Art and Heritage Academy, a modern rediscovery of the traditional Gurukul. Here, Indian dance, drama, music and yoga unfold in a contemporary space, paying heed to both tradition and its understanding in today's world. Eartha is a Degree College affiliated to Bangalore University.

 

5.Describe your daily routine.

My day almost always begins with a Yoga regime. There is a specific time alloted to family post that there are classes held throughout the day. Then there is time slotted out for rehearsals of the regular solo and group recital dance programmes held nationally and internationally.

 

6.Could you share where you have performed internationally?

Some of the international performances have been in Dubai, Europe, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. I have travelled to more than 13 countries by now.

 

7.Apart from dancing and acting what other activities do you enjoy doing?

Painting, spending time in urban gardening through potted plants, spending as much time as possible in natural surroundings

 

8.How do you unwind after a long and hectic day?

I unwind by listening to music at the end of a day.

 

9.How do you balance family and work?

My family is my pillar of support and they are always with me in all my endeavors.

 

10.Which is your favourite vacation spot?

I connect to any place abundant in Natural Beauty.


11.Which is your favourite film, who are your favourite film stars?

It is impossible for me to name any one film or artist as I deeply respect and appreciate the work of all artists, every one is unique in their style and presentation.

 

12.What message would you like to give to women entrepreneurs of Glad2baWoman Business Community?

Be confident in what you do, if you are sincere and hard working you shall receive everything you need. Make your dreams come true in action.I can-I will, Art is life-Life is Art.
