Scholarships for women are provided at various stages of education by both government as well as private organizations in India. The government as well as certain private organizations have created aid for women to help them realize their dreams because they have realized that the country’s all round development and better future depends upon educating the women of the country. Women Scientist Scheme 2012- This scheme has been developed for the women scientists of the country and the Department of Science & Technology (DST) operates this scheme. This scheme aims at providing opportunities to women to work as scientists and technologists. The eligibility criteria includes that the candidate should not be more than 50 years old.
LOréal India For Young Women in Science Scholarship Programme- This programme encourages women from the regions of Delhi or Maharashtra to go ahead in careers of science and technology since they believe that the progress of a nation depends on science and women can contribute a great deal in it. Under this programme a total of Rs.250000 is offered as scholarship to each of ten selected women to pursue their dreams in the field of science and technology. This programme also covers the entire college expenses of the students pursuing studies in any field of science.
Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child- UGC introduced this scholarship to help families meet the expenses of a girl’s education. This scholarship is provided to families at all levels of the social hierarchy provided the family comprises of a single girl child only. This scholarship has been developed to promote the importance of educating girls.
Fair & Lovely Foundation Scholarship 2012- This scholarship is offered to women who wish to pursue higher education but are unable to do so due to their poor economic condition. This scholarship is offered at the graduation, post graduation as well as PhD courses in India form Indian universities that are recognized by the government. This scholarship is awarded to women only. The candidates applying for this scholarship must have a minimum of 60% marks in both the 10th and 12th examination as well as have a basic knowledge of English Language.
Scholarship In India For Girls From Lila Poonawalla Foundation-This foundation is an Education Trust which is registered with the Charity Commissioner. This foundation offers scholarship to girls residing in Pune or any Pune districts on the basis of merit and need. The age limit for the undergraduate candidates is below 25 years and that for post-graduate students is below 30 years. It provides scholarship for undergraduate studies only in the field of engineering studies while for post graduate students this scholarship is valid in any chosen field of education.
All these scholarships aim at promoting the importance of educating the women of the country. Providing aid to the women of the country in order to pursue their dreams and aspirations is thought to be one of the best possible investments owing to the results that it yields. There would be more such scholarships if one can research further. Also, financial institutions like different banks provide education loan to students at low interest rate. Once the student is qualified, gets a job, then she can repay the loan in small monthly instalments over a period of maybe 10 to 15 years.
