Clothes Maketh a Woman
They say, first impression is the last impression. In more ways than not, this holds good. And the impression that we give to people is also determined by the clothes we wear. True, ain’t it?? Clothes, to a huge extent, reflect our persona, our inner selves, apart from our tastes and choices.
It is a dated concept now that only models, celebrities and superstars are conscious about their outfits and how they look. Today, every woman pays equal attention to choosing a wardrobe that rightly defines her! And why not, since she knows what she wears will reveal who she is. It gives a concrete shape to the image one has, and therefore choosing the right dresses and accessories is an integral ‘way of life’ for every woman. For example, a ‘bohemian’ personality would best be brought forward by rainbow colours, layered textures, bold prints and unconventional designs, so as to best complement one’s carefree, free-spirited temperament. On the other hand, a woman with a classic taste of dressing up would choose straightforward shapes with neat cuts, elegant designs, pastel shades and so on.
One can also form an idea of a woman’s profession, if not identify it exactly, by her clothes. A woman who’s in the media will generally not ‘look’ the same as a woman who teaches. It is our instinctual characteristic to select our outfits and improvise our look according to our personality. As the popular saying goes, fashion is what you buy. What you make of it is your ‘style’. It is this ‘style’ which is personal, entirely ours, and it is the overall process of preferring a particular type of clothing to others, sporting it in a way we like, and carrying it off in our own manner. Of course, accessories and footwear too are important factors. A woman wearing ‘ugg boots’ will generally be poles apart from one who wears strappy sandals, and another who prefers wedges.
We project a significant part of our personality through our clothes. They silently interact with the people we come across, and an impression is formed about us in other people’s minds. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right clothes that send out the right message about us. Nothing can be more foolish than blindly following trends and trying to be someone else. Of course, we cannot expect a woman with a preppy dressing-style to ape another with a lady-like taste in dressing. It is rather liberating to opt for customizing your own look with the appropriate apparel, accessories and footwear that does justice to your unique identity.
