Show off in different layers of style!
Fashion has undergone almost a revolution in the last decade or so. Today, it is not simply about purchasing good clothes and wearing them. There’s much more to it. People have started thinking actively and consciously about how they look and how they can enhance their style quotient. Women especially lead the bandwagon of fashion “trends” and most of them improvise their own particular looks by experimenting with different tricks!
One rule that is clearly ruling the fashion industry today is to keep one’s apparel layered. That is, simply wearing a top or ‘kurti’ is passé. Girls like to pep it up with add-on layers of shrugs, stoles, scarves, capes etc. Shrugs are usually cropped garments with long or short sleeves, resembling a cardigan, covering lesser part of the body than a vest. They are typically worn as the outermost layer of an outfit, such a tank top, shirt, or dress beneath it. It not only adds volume to the look but also looks glamorous. The colour and design of the shrug can be chosen according to the garment with which it is to be worn. Apart from the style factor, its utility lies in covering one’s arms if one is not too comfortable with sleeveless tops, spaghettis and noodle straps.
A cape is a sleeveless outer garment that hangs loosely till the end of your back and its ends can be tied or left loose in front. It has been popular since historical times and has been back to grabbing the limelight from time-to-time. It is often worn with the full evening dress to protect the fabric of the evening-wear, though it does not actually serve any purpose of covering the front part of the body.
Scarves and stoles, though they do not quite fall under the same category, are also being considered as significant components of layered dressing. Irrespective of the season, they are the “in” things in a woman’s wardrobe. Woollen, satiny, silky, cotton, they are being made of different materials and textures. Those with bright prints, ‘bandhani’ work, intricate embroidery, etc. are available, thus providing a wide range of choices to women. Scarves can be tied in many ways such as pussy-cat bow, the square knot, the cowboy bib, the loop etc.
These have now come to be essential ingredients in lending a sophisticated as well as dashing. They really grab the attention and make one look strikingly appealing.
