Age gracefully with the right make-up!
Contrary to popular belief, beauty and make-up are not the monopoly of young women and a “forbidden territory” for older women. In fact, the real need and utility of make-up starts from the age of 40 for, due to the natural process of aging, a woman gradually loses the essential attributes of her skin and overall look. While her need to appear classier and more sophisticated remains the same, if not more! Thus, they need to attend to their make-up with special care and attention as to which colour, texture etc. they are choosing. The challenge is to apply the right tricks to the right degree in order to present you at your most graceful look, rather than a fake and over-the-top appearance.
A woman in her 40’s needs to reconsider her hair-style, and get one that compliments her face, profession, personality etc. rather than blindly following trends. If she wants to colour her hair, she should stick to lighter and soft shades. When it comes to the face, very heavy foundation must not be used. Instead liquid foundations mixed with moisturizer can be applied. If she prefers blush, she should use only cream blush for a more bedewed appearance, which would not make her look ‘glittering’ but sober.
The eyes are a very crucial factor in giving you a nice appearance. Shimmers, if used at all, should be used in their neutral shades to retain a natural look. Instead of liquid liners, eye pencils should be used to highlight the eyes which are softer to the skin. Mascara & eye-shadow should be used judiciously. Especially the latter has a huge role to play in complimenting the natural shape and size and colour of your eyes.
Lips start losing their natural moisture and gloss as the age increases. To give it a young and fresh look, foundation and powder should be used close to the lip-line. Dark shades of lipsticks should be avoided on skinny lips. It is advisable to use shades that are closest to one’s natural lip-colour. Pink, berry coral and peach are the most popular ones amongst women above 40. Rather than only focussing on colours, more care should be taken to preserve the fullness and moisture of lips.
The basic trick is not to overdo the make-up. As a woman ages, ‘less is more’ should be the mantra. The priority should be to adopt a good skincare routine, in order to decelerate the sagging of the skin, deterioration of hair etc. Cleansing and moisturization, exfoliation, use of antioxidants using masks, face-packs and facials are significant aspects of looking good, even in your 40’s and beyond.
