Dhoti-Pants : The latest fashion trend this season!
The fashion-world is never static or at rest. It keeps creating ripples in some way or the other, and the one that has recently captivated sufficient popularity is the emerging trend of ‘dhoti-pants’, for both men and women. However, women have taken to it more. In fact, it was originally an exclusive fashion-statement for men, but of late, girls have been carrying it off with élan.
Dhoti-pants, actually a modern version of traditional Indian clothing item ‘dhoti’, have been taken up by girls with a twist, and are no longer a male domain. They are loving every bit of it and the fashion fervour that it entails! In recent times, it has become a common sight to spot girls wearing dhoti-pants to colleges, and perhaps this is accounted by the fact that dhoti-pants are incredibly comfortable. The other plus points being that they come in pretty inexpensive prices too, they have something ‘beachy’ about them that lend vibrancy to an otherwise mundane college day, and are perfect from the functional viewpoint too! As a student confesses, that while in college, they usually have to move around a lot, stretch and flex for various activities. For such things, jeans might be restrictive but dhoti-pants are just ‘perfect’!
It also comes along with a versatility factor as one can team them with a fitted kurti or a well-cut long tee, and a good look is guaranteed in either ways. The easiest way out to create a rocking look is to pair dhoti-pants with a simple, solid colour t-shirt and bohemian accessories. In fact, bohemian is the word that suits this fashion statement the most. Pastel shades and burnt earth colours are the hot picks this season, with the colour choices mostly inclined towards bright hues like hot pink, blue, green, red etc. which lend a quirky look. Ethnic floral and paisley prints are also very much in! The artsy hippie look that it brings along is being loved immensely, not to mention that the airy nature and comfort quotient only makes it even more of a favourite! They are the best bets to beat the heat.
Stylists and designers say that unlike girls, not many men usually can be spotted in dhoti-pants on a normal day, as few of them can carry it off rightly. However, if worn right and carried with an attitude, they can give an ultra-cool edge to your look, irrespective of whether one is a girl or a boy. It is a sort of revival for the anti-fit jeans that were in vogue years back. It emphasizes a shift of fashion from the body to style, and is, in a way, a manifestation of the growing confidence in the woman of today!
