Yummy burgers and ugly zits
Genetics and diet play decisive roles when it comes to pimples. Acne might show on our faces but occupy our minds and our thoughts especially when they assume gigantic proportions (on face, in minds or both). Teen years for those with oily skin are characterized by acne. Pimples occur when the pores in our skin get blocked. Pores get blocked when the sebaceous or oil glands inside the pores become inflamed. Inflammation may occur because of excess oil secreted from the glands. Diets rich in refined and processed food cause blood sugar levels to rise, making our body produce more insulin. This insulin makes the sebaceous glands produce more oil. This oil mixes with dead skin and bacteria and that is when eruptions occur. The whiteheads, blackheads, blemishes and pimples often leave permanent scars if handled roughly or picked at.
Junk food i.e. sugary pastries, bread or soft drinks trigger acne. Chocolate fans may rejoice for chocolate is not included in this list though. Children gorging only on chips, snack bars, grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers and stuffed pizzas daily reject nutrition, health and fitness. It doesn’t help that this junk-food dependence is encouraged and indulged by parents which often result in diseases much deadlier than acne.
Acne usually forms in teen years and continue for many up to their late 20s or early 30s. Cut out starch or any food that worsens the outbreak. A diet high in sodium/salt will compound problem of acne in teen years when hormonal changes are already playing havoc and excess oil is being produced by the sebaceous glands on your face.
Constipation is another cause of pimples. To get a zits and freckle-free face, drink 9-10 glasses of water and we can certainly reduce the outbreak of pimples at puberty. Unfortunately, if you are prone to it, there is no way to prevent the outbreaks. Keeping your face clean and washing it with an oil-free face wash is the only way teenagers can fight their untimely presence. Go for whole grains pasta, wheat and grainy flours. Apple is another fruit that is anti-inflammatory. Watermelons, leafy greens also contain moisture and keep your body well hydrated.
Acne is also caused by stress. Emotional turbulence is countered in our body by releasing of more androgens in the adrenal glands. This results in more oil being secreted from the glands and the inevitable zits on our faces. At times, allergies from make-up ingredients also cause pimples. Always use water-based products and test them at first.
Those with dry skin have fewer tendencies for pimples or acne and have a fresher face. But those with oily skin face havoc-filled teen years. Keep skin clean, drink water in huge amounts, avoid oily food and stress and follow a simple make-up routine. Take heart in the realization that in old age, an oily skin will result in fewer wrinkles!
