Pearls of wisdom

Diamonds might be a girl’s best friend, but the pearl too, is not far behind. Since time immemorial, pearls have been considered to be precious, and the grace which pearls lend to jewellery, cannot be equalled by any precious stone, or metal. It’s almost surreal to realise the fact that they are actually made within living molluscs. Made of the crystalline form of calcium carbonates, the pearl is actually quite vulnerable in front of even mild acids.
What is so special about the pearl is that it is a very versatile component to work with. Pearls can be used in all kinds of jewellery. It can be used with Gold and white gold, titanium and silver, and it can add grace and elegance to almost every other piece of jewellery. From the golden South Sea pearls, to the pink ones found in Hyderabad, and the more common white pearls, as well as the edgier black ones, the different kinds of pearls can be used for different purposes. A plan sari ensemble can instantly be made glamorous. All that the lady would really need is a string of pearls around her neck. A little black dress may have become boring now, but to add sophistication to it, pearl drop earrings, or a pearl choker, or a pearl bracelet is all one really needs.
Traditional Indian jewellery saw abundant use of the organic gems all over the country. The best part about the pearls are that they’re not as expensive as diamonds, and they are more affordable than many other precious stones, thereby making themselves available to a wider section of buyers. But in nowadays, we barely use the traditional jewellery sets. Due to the more modern tastes which we have developed, our taste of jewellery must also match the clothes we wear. And this is where pearls prove to withstand the test of time. Pearls can be used equally well in the more cutting-edge jewellery of our times. A pearl cocktail ring would look very chic, as would a long string of mismatched pearl beads which has been looped over the neck multiple number of times. They would look just as gorgeous, and effortlessly so.
For those who would want to get a little more adventurous with pearls, hair-bands made of pearls can instantly glam up a dress, and can add that hint of drama as well. The very fact that it is not used as often would make you stand out. Pearl bracelets would also look dashing if the hands are kept free of other kinds of accessories, and pearl earrings can always be given a modern tweak in order to go with just about anything.
