Angelina Jolie and relationships: the evolution of a woman
When one looks at Angelina Jolie today, one sees an incredibly composed woman beaming down at her six children, and holding hands with her fiancé. It is a heart-warming sight, and Angelina Jolie looks like the happy, content, confident woman that she is. However, she was not always like this, although her current state of contentment almost makes us forget about the life of the wild-child, who had rebelled against traditions, who had rebelled against conformity, and who had made sure that her decisions held true in every aspect of her life. Angelina Jolie has grown up from a rebellious wild-child, to a compassionate, strong and determined woman. And these changes show the most acutely, in the change of her romantic interests. Jolie always had a very troubled life. Resulting familial discord and depression rocked the foundation of her childhood and her teenage years, making her stand against any kind of conventional lifestyle. Jolie’s parents were both actors, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. Soon after Jolie was born, however, the couple separated, and Jolie and her brother went to live with their mother, who had to struggle a lot to make ends meet. In order to provide for her children and in order to be there for them as well, their mother left her glamorous Hollywood career, and took on other odd jobs. Her parents’ failed marriage played a huge part on Jolie’s decisions in relationships. Her first relationship was at the age of fourteen, when she decided to live together with her boyfriend, who moved into her room, under her mother’s supervision. According to Jolie, this was done so as to not let her get carried away outside the house. After this relationship ended, Jolie did not really commit to another one till a long time afterwards, till she met Jonny Lee Miller in 1995. The couple clicked, and the relationship was followed by a hasty marriage in 1996. The marriage was in held in the typical unconventional way in which Jolie led her life. Instead of a white, flowing gown, she wore black pants made of rubber, and a white t-shirt to her wedding. And that wasn’t it. She also wrote down Miller’s name on her t-shirt, with her blood. It was an intense by a short marriage, which ended within a year. It was in 1999 that Jolie met Billy Bob Thornton, and both of them liked to walk on the wild side of things. It was instant attraction, and they got married in 2000. Their marriage received a lot of press coverage because of their frequent public displays of affection. They also insisted on wearing vials of one another’s blood around their necks. It was in 2002, the couple separated, and that too, was covered by the media. Jolie met Brad Pitt in 2005, and they both fell in love with one another, and have managed to stick it out for eight years, now. From rocky relationships, to a mature, adult one, Jolie has come a long way. Relationships often mirror one’s state of mind, and Jolie has clearly evolved from being the rebellious wild-child, to a mature, sensible and a strong woman who can hold her head high for being a brilliant actor, a purposeful goodwill ambassador, a good mother, and a stable, strong fiancé.
