Jenny from the block – Jennifer Aniston and her rise to fame
Did you know that Jennifer Aniston, well known for her role as suburban princess turned coffee waitress in the sitcom ‘Friends’ as well as for being the ex-wife of actor Brad Pitt worked as a bike messenger, a telemarketer and as a waitress before making it big as an actress?
Half Greek Aniston faced many obstacles in her career path before finally making it big as Rachel Green – ‘Friends’ went on for 10 long successful years- and going on to find commercial success in films such as ‘Along Came Polly’, ‘Marley and Me’, ‘The Break Up’ and ‘The Bounty Hunter’. Inventor of the ‘Rachel Hairstyle’ in the 90s, Jennifer married Brad Pitt in a fairy tale wedding and the couple were much in love for five years before the gorgeous and leggy Angelina Jolie struck Pitt’s fancy during filming of the movie ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’. The golden couple of Hollywood separated and soon divorced, with Brad Pitt finding a new and exciting life with Angelina, which he wasn’t shy about shouting from the rooftops. He even famously went on to comment that his marriage to Aniston was dull and pathetic in a magazine interview, which hurt Jennifer’s feelings and put her agents on a warpath, forcing Pitt to issue a statement 24 hours later, that Jennifer was a warm and caring person. Soon after their separation, Jennifer had commented that Brad lacked a ‘sensitivity chip’ and the tasteless comments he made about his marriage to her proves her right.
But enough about her failed marriage – Aniston is now set to wed again and the latest news in is that she and her beau, American actor, director and screenwriter Justin Theroux, are furiously shopping for vintage furniture to furnish the 8,500 square-feet, palatial Bel Air home which is reportedly valued at $25 million. Here is wishing the beautiful actress a good life, may she finally find love and a stable relationship with Justin, who proposed to her on his 41st birthday. Her past boyfriends (some went on to be fiancés too) include actors Tate Donovan, Vince Vaughn and musician John Mayer.
She has found commercial success in Hollywood with films such as Marley and Me, Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey, the Break Up, He’s Just Not That Into You and Just Go With It, with funnyman Adam Sandler amongst others, the most release being the critically panned movie Wanderlust (2012), though it also heralded her new life as she met Theroux on the sets and they started dating. She has starred in many music videos and commercials, launched two film production companies – one with Brad Pitt, which she withdrew from after they separated. She even launched a signature fragrance, which was released in 2010 at Harrods in London. Originally it was called ‘Lolavie’ but to avoid confusion with another similarly named product, the name was changed to simply ‘Jennifer Aniston’. She is also a philanthropist, who supports Friends of El Farro, a grass-root level non-profit-organisation which raises money for orphans in Tijuana, Mexico. She also supports St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and has directed and starred in a video campaign for the It Can’t Wait campaign to free Burma. She has contributed to increasing awareness and understanding of LGBT communities, joined Courtney Cox, Ben Stiller and Woody Harrelson on Earth Day in 2010 in a campaign to stop slaughter of dolphins, supported many charities which include Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
No matter what turmoil her personal life may be in, it is evident that her finances are always going to help her stay afloat. In 2007, Forbes Magazine listed Aniston as one of the top ten richest women and her estimated wealth reportedly adds up to $110 million. She has appeared in People Magazine’s annual list of The Most Beautiful since 1995 and ranked first in 2004. The ‘Friends’ star has surely come a long way since people wrote her off for a string of bad movies and later pitied her for being dumped by Pitt, and has a long way to go, by the looks of it!
