Kate Winslet is a whiff of British charm

Born in Berkshire, this English rose is the second of four children. Kate Winslet's mother, Sally Ann was a barmaid and her father Roger John Winslet, a swimming pool contractor. She has spoken about her humble childhood, saying that as her parents were “jobbing actors” she didn’t have a privileged upbringing and that their daily life was hand to mouth. Despite that, Kate has acting in her blood - her maternal grandparents Oliver Bridge and Linda found the Reading repertory theatre and her older sister Anna and younger sister Beth are also actresses. Her brother Joss is the only one who is not interested in acting.
To feed her passion for acting, Winslet studied drama at the age of 11 at Redroofs Theatre School - an independent school in Maidenhead ,Berkshire where she was the head girl. At the age of 12 she appeared in an advertisement directed by the filmmaker Tim Pope for sugar puffs cereal and her career in television began when she co starred in a BBC children’s science fiction program.
In 1992 she attended a casting call for Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures in London and won the role of Julia Hulme, over 175 other aspirant and was praised for her performance. She also won many awards and accolades for this role and went on to star in Sense and Sensibility, Jude and Hamlet post this. Then in the mid 1996 , she began filming James Cameron’s “Titanic and it was rumoured that she campaigned heavily for it, sending Cameron daily notes from England which led Cameron to invite her to Hollywood for auditions. She impressed him with her screen test and was signed on for the lead role which she was warned would be emotionally demanding. Titanic went on to gross millions worldwide and was touted as the highest grosser or all time and Kate was nominated for most of the high –profile awards winning the European Film Award.
Post this, she reunited with her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie “Revolutionary Road” directed by her husband Sam Mendes. Portraying a couple in failing marriage in the 1950’s DiCaprio and Winslet watched period videos promoting life in the suburbs to prepare themselves for the film and this hard work paid off when she was awarded a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.
Initially she married Jim Threapleton whom she met while on the set of “Hideous Kinky” in 1997. They had a daughter who they called Mia Honey in the year 2000 in London, shortly after which they divorced in 2001. In 2003 she married Sam Mendes but the couple separated and later divorced in 2010. She has a son with Mendes who she called Joe Alfie Mendes. Kate is now married to Ned Rocknroll and they are expecting a child together, as announced on 4th June, 2013.
