Gowns: The one glamorous attire that will never grow old
Gone are the days when gowns were only dresses fit for ballroom dancing or wedding days. Gowns are too fashionable to be restricted to particular events, and they’re too versatile to be done such injustice to. They are evergreen, and while the pace of fashion might have discarded several kinds of clothes, gowns stay on. And that is partly because they have so much potential in their own category. Each year, each season, gowns morph into something new, and something spectacular, and they sure know how to make a woman feel gorgeous and very glamorous.
Gowns have an elegance about them which is hard to find in other kinds of clothes. They’re so versatile that they can be fun, flirty, feminine, sharp, sleek and sexy all at the same time. Every girl should own one gown which she can wear to black-tie events, to parties, to weddings, and to just about any occasion which gives her the excuse to wear a gown.
Gowns, with the advent of Hollywood, were primarily seen on the red carpet for the longest time, but today, one can see gowns at prom events, at birthday parties, and corporate events, and at just about any formal or semi-formal occasion. If you think that you need a perfect body to wear a gown, you’re wrong. There are so many cuts which are given to gowns, that just about anybody can look good in a gown, so long as one is aware of the kind of cuts which flatter their body frames.
Strapless gowns are very much in, as are the mermaid cuts. Fashion designers are experimenting with unique and out-of-the-box materials to come up with gowns which are more cutting edge and new-age. Apart from the traditional materials which gowns are made from, such as satin, silk, chiffon, or velvet, lace is making a come-back, and designers are incorporating new materials such as khadi, leather, nets, and are coming up with new and innovative cuts.
Depending on your body size, and your body shape, you can opt for an empire line gown, a sheath gown, which hugs your body from top to bottom, a trumpet gown, which flares up after the knees, an a-line gown, or a traditional princess gown. The trick while wearing a good gown is to show off your best feature.
If you have good shoulders and a slender neck, you should flaunt a strapless gown, and if you think you have a toned body, go in for a sheath dress, If you have good legs, then opt for a gown with a slit, and if you have a back you want to flaunt, then you should go in for a backless gown, which instead of being low-cut at the front, is low-cut at the back.
Gowns come in so many different colours, but a black evening gown is a staple for every closet, because it will remain evergreen, and it will not be subject to changing fashion. They’re easy to accessorize, and they require good shoes to be worn with them. So slip into a gown, put on a pair of strappy shoes and get some beautiful danglers for your ears, and you’ll feel like a diva almost instantly.
