Priyanka : A designer's delight!
Amidst the bevy of Bollywood beauties that are reigning in the tinsel town, Priyanka Chopra’s name is one of the first to spring to one’s lips when we mean style with an attitude. Fashion comes and fashion goes; what lingers is one’s inherent glamour and the confidence with which one carries herself. Miss Chopra is definitely a pro at that. Born stylish, this ‘desi girl’ looks like a million dollars whenever she makes an appearance, be it on the silver screen or on other public events. The former Miss World has not only taken the fashion-world by storm with her ravishing looks, but has slowly yet steadily climbed up the ladder of success in Bollywood and is certainly a diva of our current times!
She first caught attention with one of her earliest movies Andaaz, where her skimpy outfits clicked with the audience. Next, she experimented quite broadly with her image, going the complete chic way in Mujhse Dosti Karoge, while Aitraaz saw her in corporate suits and bodycons that had a flavour of the business-tycoon image in sync with the character she portrayed. Both proved that she could blend well with the character-profile of widely diverse roles and thereby, do justice to her versatility when it comes to fashion. In Don and Don 2, she either sported body-hugging shirts or long maxi dresses, both flattering her gorgeous self to the fullest! On the other hand, she has never bid adieu to traditional wear. In fact, Priyanka has stolen the limelight on many an occasion with her sari avatar! This girl surely knows how to bring forth the sensuality that a sari embodies. Be it the ‘desi girl’ song of Dostana, or her recent appearances in award shows, page 3 events etc., she is a treat for sore eyes, draped in those six-yards! Movies such as Kaminey, 7 Khoon Maaf, Agneepath, Barfi etc. saw her stripping off her beauty-queen robes and getting under the skin of simpler, more earthy and raw characters. However, she managed to exude a certain enigma and charm, no matter what how plainly she was dressed.
Most of the films that she has done so far have banked upon her glamorous looks besides her prowess as a performer, and she has outshone herself with each! Fashion was such a movie that best exploited her svelte looks, and simultaneously established her range as a complete actress! She says that she considers yesteryear actresses like Mumtaz, Sharmila Tagore and Rekha to be her style icons. According to her a white shirt and blue jeans can make anyone look good, no matter what! She’s also not fussy about brands, and believes that brands alone cannot create one’s style statement. She herself confesses to having worn high-end brands with street jewellery and torn jeans. Leather jackets and leather pants are what she has a fetish for, off-screen. This all-rounder dresser says that she is as comfortable in Indian attire as in western dresses. No wonder she catapulted the hot-pants-and halter tops look to fame just as well as she looked no less sexy in sarees, anarkalis, lehngas etc. Confidence after all, is the mantra and she has oodles of it for sure!
Often referred to as the female ‘rockstar’ of Bollywood, she has always been open to new ideas and looks when it comes to fashion. This lends a fresh and fascinating appeal to whatever style she sports. Always surprising us with innovations in her look- she is known for going whacky and wild at one point, to cute and petite in another, to serene and sophisticated in yet another! Super-impressive, we say!
