Michelle Obama's White House Style

Michelle Obama's White House Style

She doesn't need any help. She loves fashion and knows what works for her. She’s never had a conversation with me about, “What do you think?” or “How does this look?”, and I’m glad for that. - Andre Leon Talley, former Editor-at-large for Vogue magazine While most US First Ladies have been featured in Vogue magazine, Michelle Obama is the first to be featured twice on its cover, first in March 2009 and second in the April 2013 issue. Known as much for her unique sense of fashion as she is for her dedication towards promoting healthy lifestyles, Obama’s outfits were grabbing the attention of news tabloids as early as 2008, when she began campaigning for husband Barack, then a Democratic hopeful. Popularly known as the second big “O”, the first being Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, another fashionable former First Lady. Obama stands tall at 5 feet 11 inches, and has an athletic build. Her clothes are a mixture of designer and mass-marketed brands, and she is not afraid of showing off both in equal measure. She wore clothes from J-crew and White House/Black Market brands for her television appearances, and the pieces were sold out within the next day; a sign of her growing popularity among Americans. For her first Vogue cover shoot, she wore a dress by designer Jason Wu, who also designed the famous red sheath dress which she wore for the Inaugural Ball. For the second shoot in April 2013, she chose a blue and purple Reed Krakoff sheath dress from her own closet. Her makeup, as always, is kept neutral and she is not known for bright shades of eye or lip color. Obama’s strong, self-confident personality is reflected in the way she chooses and accessorizes her look, and she makes her presence felt during both, formal as well as informal events. At formal events she is usually seen wearing one of her favored sheath dresses, which are usually monotone and accessorized with a single chunky neck piece or a string of pearls. She incorporates “bling” into her formal looks via large signature pieces, but keeps the elegant look intact by not overdoing it; an example of this are the large, but striking chandelier earrings by designer Loree Rodkin, which she wore to the Inaugural Ball in 2009. Best Payday Loans Nyc As one of the most popular fashion icons of the present century, Michelle Obama’s name is a regular feature in best-dressed lists in fashion magazines around the world. She has been praised for blending in with the masses and becoming more likable thanks to her down-to-earth approach to dressing well. Her 2011 appearance in “The Today Show” drew appreciation from audiences who were pleasantly surprised at her outfit of choice; a simple navy and blue polka-dotted dress with a ruffled front, accessorized with bright pump heels and a wide orange belt. The dress was from popular brand H & M, and retails for $35. Obama’s diverse fashion choices have made her popular, not only in the United States, but also in Britain, where the notoriously choosy Sunday Times Style Magazine hailed her as being the best-dressed person on their list, and honored her with her own stamp, complete with the Queen’s tiara. With her ability to stand out, be it during formal occasions or during an informal interaction with the public, Michelle Obama’s non-aggressive, budget-friendly approach to fashion, juxtaposed with her penchant for standout apparel by diverse designers, well-known and otherwise, makes her an interesting fashion icon who alienates nobody. She makes her style accessible to all those who admire her, and is sure to attract legions of admirers who love celebrity fashion and will now be able to acquire it without burning a hole in their pockets.
