How to wear gold clothing
In 1964, in one of the most enduring images of western cinema, agent 007 (played by the very handsome Sean Connery) returns to his hotel room to find a beautiful woman lying face down on the bed, quite dead. What was striking about this scene, in the movie Gold Finger? The woman had been murdered in an entirely innovative way – her body painted with gold. Few people will forget the image of the slender, perfect figure, shimmering with gold paint. This of course, gave rise to many impersonations – where women did not actually paint themselves over with gold but wore gold to mimic the rich, royal look.
Gold is always associated with wealth and glamour – and wearing this colour correctly can really make one look uber sophisticated. It is a shade which is extremely expressive of elegance and refinement and the Grecian goddess look that it imparts to its wearer immediately makes her feel more confident and successful. You can wear a gold outfit to any event, providing you accessorise correctly and it is a safe choice for almost all women as it suits all skin tones.
Wearing a golden dress will also make you stand out in a place like a club where more often than not, women tend to wear hot pinks and neon greens and other such accepted ‘club wear’ shades. Gold looks beautiful on burnished skin as well as Caucasian and can be paired with other colours such as burgundy, green, orange or burnished red, and emerald or jade greens for a fabulous colour contrast and combination. Sometimes, designers go all out by further embellishing the shimmery tone with sequins and crystals but keep the detailing to a minimum if you are not fond of looking like a light fixture!
You can accessorise your gold outfit with silver or matte metal toned jewellery – so as to highlight the shade. If you wear loud jewellery with a gold outfit you might look very out of place, especially if the shade you are wearing is very shiny by itself. In fact, a great way to accessorise a gold outfit would be to wear muted and different shades of gold – earrings, a pendant, bracelet, ring and even shoes ( of course, not all together!).
Gold and white are everlasting pairs – wear a pair of muted gold pants with a chic white blouse and a pair of matte gold stilettos. Never make the mistake of wearing black shoes – they will contrast in a negative way with gold outfits, unless the theme of the outfit is black and gold. A white, lace sari with a gold border and a gold blouse is also a beautiful and cool look to opt for for Indian women – wear it to a wedding and watch heads turn.
Gold detailing can also be incorporated into your everyday style if you are wary of wearing a full gold outfit. Wear a shirt with a gold pocket, or gold collars, tie a pussycat bow around your neck, fasten a gold belt around your waist or wear a shirt with gold cuffs. However you wish to wear it, gold surely makes you look like a red carpet celeb, so go out and add some bling to your wardrobe if you haven’t already!
