Must watch – Scarlett Johansson’s reel life
This beautiful and fresh faced actress is a like a breath of fresh air on the silver screen. At a time when celebrity actresses promote the stick thin figure and show off the same on the red carpet events that in turn, promote fashion trends, Scarlett Johansson made it a point to flaunt her considerable curves and was well appreciated.
Born to mixed heritage, Johansson has a twin brother, an elder brother from her father’s first marriage and a sister. She credits her acting skills to her mother who took her to auditions when she was very young and also says that writing, acting and performing is in her genes. She apparently taught herself how to read at four and was a very talkative child, and her sunshiny personality shows through even today – mimicking the fictional personality she was named for – Scarlett O Hara, the feisty and much loved character in ‘Gone With The Wind’.
She began acting at a relatively young age and made her first appearance aged 9 in a film called North. Thereafter she acted in small roles with well known and established actors such as Sean Connery and Robert Redford, she was touted as the next best thing if she managed to grow into adulthood without the ravages that the film industry regularly foists on its child stars. Well Scarlett did indeed grow into a confident adult actress who continues to garner and effective fan following.
She has frequently worked with Woody Allen in films such as Match Point and Vicky Christina Barcelona and the veteran director has described her to be an overwhelming presence who is wittier than he is and has admitted that he feels quite out of his league when she is around.
She is probably best known for her appearance in Vicky Christina Barcelona, where she shares screen space with the incredibly hunky Spanish actor Javier Bardem and the beautiful and elegant Penelope Cruz. Another role she is well appreciated for is that of the sexy and cunning Agent Natasha Romanov or Black Widow in the movie Iron Man 2. She reportedly did all her own stunts in the movie though she joked about her audition as being a couple of deep knee bends and lunges.
Her other notable works include Ghost World, Eight Legged Freaks, Lost In Translation, The Black Dahlia, Nanny Diaries, He’s Just Not That Into You, The Avengers etc. She has also done a lot of theatre and has won critical acclaim for her role as Maggie the Cat or Margaret, in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and View From A Bridge. Scarlett also sings and has wowed audiences with her throaty renditions and released her debut album titled “Anywhere I Lay My Head” in 2008 as well as a second album titled “Break Up” later.
A private person intrinsically, Scarlett rarely speaks about her personal life though everyone was privy to her very public marriage to actor Ryan Reynolds and subsequent divorce after a mere two years. Post her divorce, Scarlett reportedly dated actor Sean Penn who was miles older than her, briefly, causing many eyebrows to be raised. She also dated actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt and New York advertising exec Nate Naylor and is currently dating French journalist Romaine Dauriac.
