Fashion is fun for plus size women
While society continues to grow in many different ways, one of the issues which needs much thought and sensitivity is that of plus size women. Generally classified as being those who wear a UK dress size 16 or above, plus size women are not a minority, but appear to be treated as such by the fashion and apparel industry. Thin and athletic figures on the other hand, have diverse options to choose from, while plus size women rely on unflattering, badly-designed innerwear, tent dresses which make them look larger, and have close to no options at regular clothing stores. This situation is being reversed gradually as the industry is now opening its mind and market to the plus size female customer, who is as much of a fashion follower, as she is deserving of fashion items which suit her body type. Here are some fun, fashionable options for plus size ladies everywhere.
Among the many flattering fashion ideas for plus size women, are play-suits. Cinched belts and signature neck or wrist pieces can draw attention away or towards a flattering aspect of the figure, while the play-suit itself can cover the body without making it look boxy. The use of a belt will provide an hourglass look by highlighting the waist. Contrary to myth, plus size women could and should add, or highlight their curves.
Skirts which are just below knee-length with the appropriate pleating will slim the bottom half of the body and will lengthen the legs. “Girls” actress Lena Dunham recently showed up at an event wearing a pleated skirt which smoothed her tummy area and made her look slightly slimmer.
Black is a popular color and a favorite with plus size women, owing to its being called a “slimming” shade. All black ensembles are common, but with a few pops of color and variations in pattern, could flatter a full figure. Interestingly, one could wear a dress or outfit in any color and still look as slim as one would with a classic black outfit. What matters with single color outfits is the cut of the neckline, which should be v-shaped in order to lengthen neckline and accentuate the bust, and also the length of the outfit, which should ideally end at the knee.
For those who enjoy ethnic Indian outfits such as kurti’s, plus size women could benefit from wearing leg-hugging tights under their knee-length kurti’s. This will avoid the bulking up of the leg area, which often occurs with loose pants and Patiala pants, which often balloon out.
On the other hand, for plus size women who enjoy wearing fusion wear, such as short kurtis, but are unsure as to whether they will look larger, it is a good idea to pair large Patiala pants, or pyjama pants with 3/4th sleeve length short kurtis. Once again, a v-neck or scoop neck will help steer clear of a boxy feel to the outfit, while the fitted nature of the kurta will add shape to the person and will focus on the top half of their bodies. Wearing interesting prints and designs and pairing them with a plain colored top or pair of pants is recommended.
Fashion for plus size women is all about fun, the right neckline, and figure-flattering shapes. At no point should someone who is plus-sized feel that they deserve to be less fashionable than regular size women; fashion is meant for everybody, and with the right fashion choices and some intelligent accessorizing, one can aspire to be quite the fashion diva! Size indeed, does not matter.
