How Jennifer Aniston tries to make the world a better place
We all know about how Jennifer Aniston wowed the world with her dignified composure after being unceremoniously dumped by husband Brad Pitt - who then went on to publicly profess how his marriage to her had been deathly boring and dull – with incredible grace and dignity. This grace is evidently a key part of her being and personality as Aniston, unlike many celebs who only enjoy their fame and fortune without giving back to society, does a lot of work for the under-privileged – a sure sign of a good heart.
She supports many charities and goes to many events and fundraisers in aid of various causes. She is well known as a generous being and several NGOs benefit from her generosity. For example, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital features her in their commercials. Jennifer started working with this hospital in 2008 along with several other celebrities for a campaign titled Thanks and Giving Campaign. This was a campaign held during Christmas which the hospital conducts regularly wherein they connect with media, corporate sectors and others across the world and asks them to support the children in St Jude. Aniston has been a regular contributor and supporter for this hospital - and has featured in a well known video for them, which reinvented the cult song “Hey Jude” by the Beatles.
Friends of El Faro is another charity that Aniston supports – which strives to better the existence of children in Tijuana, Mexico. The charity looks after the Casa Hogar Sion Orphanage and notably, in 2010, Jennifer spearheaded an initiative to craft a doll known as the Farita doll along with a hotel in Mexico, where she celebrated her birthday. Crafted by local artisans, the proceeds of the sale of this doll was donated to this charity.
Jennifer also cares about the plight of the transgender community and has received the GLAAD Vanguard Award in 2007. This award was given to her for her very public and heartening work for the transgender, gay and lesbian communities. She actively promotes gay rights and is a honourable recipient of this award which has been presented to celebs like Cher, Charlize Theron and Liza Minelli previously.
She has supported many other such charity organisations and NGOs who do great work for those who need help in society – she is an active part of the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, she has voiced her opinions with regard to freedom of living in the It Can’t Wait campaign to free Burma in 2008. In 2010 after natural calamity struck Haiti, she donated more than $50,000 to organisations who were working to provide relief to the stricken nation – such as Doctors without Borders, AmeriCares etc. She also helped raise over $58 million for Haiti by being an active part of Hope for Haiti Now - a telethon and bought a piece of art for over $ 450,000 at a charity event held in support of Haiti.
She has also, in 2010, raised her voice against the brutal slaughter of dolphins for meat and teamed up with other celebs on Earth Day to campaign against this practice and also to save the Japanese, who are the perpetrators of this practice from falling ill – dolphin meat contains large amounts of mercury which is bad for health – though the Japanese continue to kill and eat them, despite that.
Aniston supports other charities too, such as Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, Best Friends Animal Society, Clothes off our Back, Feeding America etc. In fact, in 2011, she and fiancée Justin Theroux informed their friends that they had made a donation in their name to St Jude and Best Friends Animal Society – when they sent them their Christmas cards.
The actress is definitely as beautiful within, as she is, without. Hats off to her.
