PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi to be felicitated by an Indo-American charity
Indra Nooyi has long been regarded as one of the most successful female CEOs in the corporate sphere. As a longtime feature in Forbes and Fortune magazine as one of its most respected and powerful businesspersons, Nooyi is constantly looking for innovative ways to improve her brand and expand its reach in the global market. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, and she has recently been felicitated by an Indo-American charity for her efforts. The “Special Impact” award is being given to Nooyi by a US-based NGO, Children’s Hope India [CHI], which was founded in 1992 by a collective of Indian-American professionals. The organization regularly sponsors health, education, and vocational programmes for thousands of children and young adults in India. The outreach of the organization extends to over 20,000 children per year in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Bhuj, Jabalpur, Pune, and villages in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Nooyi was born in India, but has chosen to be based in America after completing college and eventually becoming the CEO of PepsiCo. She is Indian-American therefore, and also shares a connection with the city of Kolkata, which in fact, is the theme of the award ceremony during which she is to be felicitated this October. She is also known for her generosity and concern for various social causes which she supports, but chooses to remain private about how much she personally donates and towards which causes. She has, however, made her political preferences publicly known by donating $ 27,000 towards the Democratic Party, while completely ignoring the Republicans. The donation was made during a meeting with other CEO’s of various companies and Nooyi, along with Dave Cote of Honeywell International were noticed for their uniquely partisan contributions; Cote donated towards the Republicans while Nooyi chose the Democrats. The PepsiCo. Foundation has been a longtime supporter of water.org with generous donations to scale “Water Credit” across India of up to $ 8 million. This grant is the largest in the history of the foundation, and endeavors to provide access to safe sanitation and water for over 1 million beneficiaries by 2016. The donation is testimony to Nooyi’s support for social causes, and recognition for its pressing issues, the scarcity of safe, healthy drinking water being one of many. It is also perhaps one of many reasons as to why she is being awarded by the Indo-American organization. With this award, which Nooyi will no doubt, add to her already considerable collection, it is certain that she is one of the Indo-American community’s most valued and respected members, and is also a valuable asset to them. As a woman with substance, charisma, and the rare distinction of being amongst the most powerful women in the business sphere, Indra Nooyi is a shining example of how consistent work, determination, and unwavering self-confidence can lead to exceptional professional success and recognition.
