Corset dresses and their ageless appeal!

Corset dresses and their ageless appeal!

The word “corset” derived from an old French word, is not a thing of today. History bears testimony to the fact that corsets were worn by women as well as men ever since the 18th century, not only for fashion but also for medical purposes. However, such times are passé. Today, corset dresses are worn by women strictly for reasons of fashion, and why not! This is the best kind of dress to slim your body and make it conform to a stylish silhouette.
Nothing beats corsets when it comes to emphasizing a curvy figure, by reducing the waist, and exaggerating the bust and hips. In short, corsets bring forth every woman’s dream shape, or at least create an illusion of the same, which is why they are often preferred to other forms of dresses! Depending on one’s body, one may choose from different types of corset dresses, be it straight, sweetheart, plunge or the scoop neckline. Of course, keep in mind your plus and minus points while settling for a corset dress; for example, if you have a smaller bust, a straight neckline is best recommended for you, while for bustier ladies, nothing works like the plunge neckline. On the other hand, the sweetheart type suits a wide range of body shapes. Be it parties or proms, a sparkling, sensuous, short corset dress will set eyeballs rolling, more so if festooned with the right amount of bling.
Corset dresses lend a vintage and feminine touch to your look, as well as a Gothic look if you so want. If the lower end of the dress is shaped like a slim-fitting skirt, that too in slinky fabric, it can indeed be a head-turner. Often covered in lace and ruched satin, corset dresses, when teamed in sensuous thigh-highs and garter belt, your accessorizing is just complete. Corset dresses can be a fabulous choice for a day out, shopping with your girl-friends, a date, a party or a night-club, and so on. The safer way is to go for printed instead of solid colours, and textured rather than plain fabric. Since corsets expose the upper part of your body, it’s advisable to settle for long, at least mid-length ones.
Big on the runway and bigger on the streets, corset dresses are totally the in-thing of today. Fashion enthusiasts are rooting for it for the way it makes you acquire that oh-so-enviable hourglass shape. However, if you’re too busty, your shoulders or your neck might turn out to be a problem area, unless you hide them with a chic hairstyle or a jacket, which will be a smart fashion statement in its own right. Be it Jessica Alba or Rebecca Taylor, corset dresses have been spotted flattering celebrities many a times! Know how and where to wear it, and corset dresses are sure to feed your craving for that cutesy yet bold look.
