Strapless dresses are a big hit in the party circuit!
Every woman looks for the right strapless dress to wear. To a prom, a dance party, a cocktail party, or even to a mall as a casual attire. Once considering to be quite bold, it has now gained wide acceptance and has risen to be many women’s favourite party wear! This is not to overlook the fact though, that after one or two unhappy goofs, many women have convinced themselves that off-shoulder/strapless dresses are simply not made for them.
But then, give it a thought. every woman has, at some or the other time, come across a dress that looks fabulous on the rack and dreadful on her, or so she feels. On the other hand, every woman has been convinced at least once to just try such a dress which she thought was a complete misfit for her, but which ended up making her look fabulous! Though a little trick for women who isn’t in the habit of wearing them, but they’re very much wearable. The common goal when choosing and wearing a dress is to create a visual illusion of a perfect female body, irrespective of the actual body type. The same applies to strapless dresses as well.
Those with a straight or rectangle body type should wear strapless dresses with detailed, fitted bodices and flowing skirts. Fitted waists, and bodice details such as ruching and border prints will retain the visual attention upwards. For those with a pear-shaped body, strapless dresses usually never go wrong for they have great shoulders and arms. Knee-length dresses with empire waists will slim down her body at the bottom half. If she is blessed with a good height, she can also flaunt a longer strapless dress with a short ruffled or border print bodice. Thus, one can choose the perfect strapless dress to flatter her body according to her body type.
The appropriateness of a strapless dress for a particular occasion is more dependent on the fabric than on its length. Bohemian and tribal prints, polka dots and stripes in cotton, etc. are casual styles, that best suits a girls’ day out. More embellished fabrics should best be reserved for a cocktail hour or any dressy occasion. Whatever it be, fitting is the most important criteria when selecting your strapless dress. The last thing you’d want is a wardrobe malfunction in a public gathering, right? Even worse than a fashion faux pas, in order to avoid it at all costs, contort your body into every possible position in the dressing room to make sure you’re firmly encased in your dress. Raise your arms, bend over, walk around. Choosing the right undergarment for your strapless dress is also very crucial so that you do not end being in an awkward position due to slippage and discomfort. Last but not the least, when it comes to accessories, keep it simple. Since your neck will be most prominently exposed, a statement necklace will work wonders. One with a strand of delicate coloured freshwater pearls or a gemstone necklace with a unique pendant will lend the necessary elegance and gracefulness to your look. A pair of fancy chandelier earrings or a diamond studded cuff would do no harm!
Transforming your strapless dress for a less dramatic, toned down look is no big deal either. A pretty knit top or a fitted jacket will suit your modesty without compromising on the style quotient. Turn it into a versatile apparel by experimenting with various kinds of layers and shrugs, and you’re sure to turn heads wherever you go! So, the next time you dismiss the idea of buying a strapless dress, think again. Go for it!
