Think beyond white for your wedding dress!
Do not want to put on the same old all-white wedding gown? Here’s good news for you- you don’t need to! Perhaps this very trend was initiated by Queen Victoria, who wore a lacy, white wedding gown in her wedding with Prince Albert, way back in 1840. From then on, Western brides have stuck to the tradition of white dresses for their nuptials. However, if you’re one of those new-age brides who want to dip their toe into the non –white wedding trend, you have a plethora of options to choose from. It’s your big day, so you should have the complete say in what you’re going to wear to look and feel your most beautiful self, as you vow: “I do.”
Silver is the safest bet if you are a little skeptical about defying the convention. It will show your individuality without giving tradition completely a miss. Pink too is a great colour to start with, as it has that tinge of a blush that is the loveliest thing on a bride’s face on her wedding day! Jessica Biel, Gwen Stefani, Reese Witherspoon, and Anne Hathaway have all chosen pink ball gowns for walking down the aisle. Be it a long, floor-grazing number or a short and simple, pink is a colour no bride can say no to! Purple would make even royalty envy you! Be it lavender or plum, the various shades of purple will give you a youthful look. It looks great paired with silver and gold, so add a dash of wither of these shades along with the noble purple, and you’re sure to get that opulent touch to your wedding attire.
Red is another popular colour for brides, which can perhaps be accounted by that fact that Chinese culture is expanding its influence on Western culture, more so with designers like Vera Wang. No doubt it is a bold statement, but if you are an energetic, enterprising bride, there is no reason why you should not take the plunge. Candy apple red or deep wine red, it is sure to reflect your personality, besides being a symbol of love and passion. Blue, on the other hand, is a calm and soothing colour; choose a shade that will suit your skin, and you’re sure to feel flattered in it.
If your wedding is scheduled sometime around Christmas, or, if you’re planning an eco-themed wedding, then green is your colour! Embodying life, vitality and good health, it is a perfect choice for outdoor weddings, more so during springtime! Mint green to forest green, and all the shades in between, will be a wonderful colour to mark the beginning of a new life that you and your significant other is embarking upon! Yellow, the colour symbolising joyousness and optimism, should be chosen carefully, according to your skin tone. For an outdoor wedding in summer, bright yellow is a good colour, whereas for autumn nuptials, more subdued shades of yellow can work wonders!
Thus, if you have an inclination towards colours other than white for your wedding dress, you can easily find a multitude of dresses to satisfy your taste. Whether you want to make a style statement or simply want to be dressed in your favourite colour, it is entirely your call, for it is after all, a day, which will forever be etched on your memory, and of course, you want to settle for nothing but the best!
