Try on a neon saree today and add vibrancy to your ethnic look

Bright neon colors are making a huge comeback on both, the Indian fashion runways as well as on the Bollywood event red carpet, which in its own way, is a viewing ground for fashion followers to select their next fashion obsession based on what their favorite stars are wearing. With trendsetting followers in the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor sporting bright neon sarees, it is only natural that neon sarees are the next best thing to happen to this humble ethnic garment. Gone are the days of flashy zardozi’s and heavy kanjeevarams with equally heavy jewellery, this season is all about being bright and beautiful.
Making its official entry into Bollywood thanks to designer Manish Malhotra, who is responsible for the beautiful outfits of most of the circuit’s leading ladies, neon has been noted in varying hues and varying levels of vibrancy, in context with ethnic wear. Actress and cricket commentator, Mandira Bedi paired a fluorescent yellow neon saree with a traditional gold and green border, complimented by her trademark noodle strap blouses. She wore this fetching and vibrant saree to the India Bridal Fashion Week and turned heads on the red carpet. Her red bindi added an additional dash of ethnic beauty to her look. Not to be left behind, actress Kareena Kapoor showed off her svelte frame in a neon-meets-pastel hued saree in a neon dark orange and peach shade with a light lilac border. She opted for a delicate sleeveless blouse in the same shade with silver embellishments at the shoulder. Always known for her ability to carry off any outfit with panache, actress Shilpa Shetty made the unusual but fashion forward choice of pairing a pink, green, and orange neon saree with 3/4th sleeve blouse which featured contrasting Rajasthani mirror work and art. This look will suit anyone who, like Shilpa, is tall and has the slim silhouette to showcase all the colors in the saree. Bollywood’s currently reigning fashion trendsetter Sonam Kapoor has gone a step further in embracing the neon saree trend by adding a modern art based twist to the look. Spotted recently wearing a unique creation by designer Masaba Gupta, which features a grey blouse under a neon pink saree with lipstick case imprints, and completed with a fluorescent yellow border, this look is for the young woman who wants an ethnic look which is also quite modern.
The neon saree trend is expected to stay for a while now, since the summer season generally calls for brighter colors and lighter fabric in order to keep up with the sultry weather conditions. If you are nervous about being “too bright” with your choice of neon saree, take a tip from actress Kareena Kapoor and blend an overall neon saree with a light pastel border in order to create a soft, feminine balance in your look. If you wish to add a more modern look to this already fashion forward trend, young designers such as Masaba Gupta are the people whose designs will appeal best, while Bollywood’s favorite designer, Manish Malhotra’s designs will suit those who like mixing Bollywood glamour with modern fashion.
