Sarees with long sleeve blouses are in fashion this season
Sarees with long sleeve blouses are part of a growing trend these days, with the biggest names in fashion taking to it with a passion. From Bollywood’s most popular trendsetter, actress Sonam Kapoor, to the beautiful Kareena Kapoor, to the daring Malaika Arora Khan and her penchant for color block blouses, long sleeves are spotted on the biggest names in the industry, and it is time therefore, for you to join the bandwagon.
While the saree is usually the showstopper, with its beautiful pallu and many embellishments, the humble blouse too, has its own special role to play in making your ethnic ensemble come to life. For those who prefer few embellishments on their sarees but still need that “bling” or element of dazzle to their look, the long sleeves of a saree blouse are the ideal canvas for any kind of design and embellishment work. From brocade to zari, to Swarovski accents and even neon ombre shades, the long sleeve blouse will infuse color and sparkle into your look, and will either accentuate an already embellishment-heavy saree, or will draw attention away from a monotone or neutral hued one.
Actress Malaika Arora Khan enjoys doing both, adding additional sparkle to her look as well as playing up the neutral tones of her sarees; she especially enjoys neon and color blocked sarees with her long sleeve blouses and prefers a drawstring back. Actresses Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif on the other hand, go for a slightly more demure approach by wearing brocade long sleeve blouses with their fancy sarees, which are usually in red and maroon hues for event promotions and other public events. Actress Sridevi infuses glamour into her long sleeve blouses by wearing the high neck version, which is rich with silver and zardozi embellishments, thus acting as both, a garment as well as an accessory for her look. She leaves the sleeves bare, as they are so as to maintain attention in the neck area.
A new trend in context with long sleeve blouses has also sprung up among the net and lace saree wearing fraternity, i.e. the more sheer and lacy the saree, the more opaque and long sleeved the blouse, with due attention to keep the neck area in the “boat” neck style for more dramatic impact. Sonam Kapoor is usually the go-to person for a young person who is looking for fashion inspiration; she has recently taken to wearing Masaba Gupta print sarees, which she pairs with grey or monochrome long sleeve blouses. To get her look, one needs to pair a saree with large and quirky prints, and pair it with a contrasting, neutral hued long sleeve blouse.
Long sleeve blouses also work well with certain types of sarees, which are currently in fashion such as the bikini saree and the saree trouser. It can be worn in the usual style, i.e. in a single fabric with customary long sleeves and a v-shape or round neck, or in other variations with lace, embellishments and other decorative work.
