If you are the kind of woman that abhors looking overtly feminine and can’t stand the notion of wearing sparkly rings and flowery pendants then perhaps you could try out spiked jewellery. A whole range of spiked bracelet, bangles, rings, earrings and even pendants have made their way into a chic and trendy woman’s bling – box.
Probably inspired by armour wear – indeed, some of these pieces can double up as a safety device, spikes look edgy and trendy, providing you know how to wear them well – with the right outfit. You can’t possibly wear a spiked collar or bracelet with a traditional salwar- kameez set, but if your outfit is fusion – Indian, then perhaps you can carry off a spiked bracelet with a halter top and a ghagra.
If you are the kind who has numerous holes in your ear, then stick one spike through it – you will get such earrings – which are basically single spikes made with either bone or plastic, and you can wear it in one ear hole. Two in both ears will look strange, one make more of a style statement so if you think you can pull it off, go for it.
Spikes look best when they are worn as a bracelet or as a chunky bangle. You can wear a cute, fitted spaghetti top and a shrug over it with jeans, and team it with a large, chunky bracelet on one arm, watch on the other. This ensemble is stylish and casual at the same time.
Jazz up a little black dress with a spiked body chain – that makes you look uber feminine and edgy at the same time. If you want inspiration, look up Rihanna’s style statements and you will see how she wears spikes with élan – especially, body chains!
Spiked rings are the best option if you don’t want to go all out with the spiked style – they are small, with few spikes and can pack a mean punch in a shady situation. Not to say that all spiked rings are deadly and sharp – most are made of soft plastic and the spikes are for show only, however, in a tense situation, you can easily make a fist and shove it into a soft neck or solar plexus. These rings are usually in gold, silver or black tones and look the best if you wear it with floral tops or white shirts. Wear silver small spikes as a ring on the thumb to look a little more grungy, blue jeans and a thick line of kajal should make you stand out!
You even get spiked knuckle-duster rings which you wear on two or three fingers together.
A line of spikes around your collarbone also makes a fun fashion statement – channel your inner Goth with a spiked necklace, black top, torn black jeans, black nail paint and (of course) black eye makeup and lipstick. ( Feel free to add any other black related items we might have missed out on!)
