Starry jewellery

Starry jewellery

As a race, we are superstitious. We like holding on to the belief that there are tangible objects that will protect us from evil things that are hovering around us, waiting to happen. We believe that there are forces beyond our control which serve to control us and that by appeasing them or wearing/carrying certain things, we can avoid the wrath they will inflict upon us. This is true all across the globe, though Indians seem to be especially susceptible to such beliefs.

This is indicated by the numbers of “holy” men and fake ascetics who proclaim themselves to be astrological “gurus” who walk the streets of India. Of course, there might be a similar number in other cultures as well. Almost all cultures believe in charms and talismans and amulets and many of us convert these into beautiful and delicate jewellery to wear all the time, as protection against the potential wrath of the planets.

Many people wear stones and gems based on their astrological signs and these apparently help to alleviate or prevent any problems that they might be suffering from.
Amitabh Bachchan famously started to revive his terribly flagging career after wearing a blue sapphire ring on his finger.

Gemstones are common choices for such jewellery. There are set into pendants or rings usually and worn on specific fingers or in a certain manner. Every zodiac sign has a specific gemstone and all twelve signs have specific shapes or figures associated with them...Geminians, born in the month of June are depicted as twins, and their birthstones are agate, Pisceans, born in the month of February, are depicted as entwined fish and their birthstones are amethysts. January born Capricorns wear garnets and April born Arians are meant to wear diamonds, and so on.

Jewellery specifically worn as per horoscopes are meant to enable the individual to call on their strengths and banish their weaknesses. Amber is supposed to be an extremely trust worthy charm – the golden resin from trees, coagulates together to form this hard ‘stone’ and usually, amber has a lot of natural life embedded in it – it is common to find tiny insects, fronds of moss, algae and other flora or fauna in amber and this is what makes it extremely precious. As are other stones found in nature such as obsidian, cats eye, moonstone etc. – they are said to hold great natural energy and power and beneficial to those who wear them. Symbols such as pentacles, the goddess Isis, eye of horus etc. are popular choices as well.

Usually, such stones are worn only after being advised to. So find out which is the stone for you and wear it set as a pretty necklace or a ring – if you believe in it, then anything negative will be blocked out and only the positives will be let in.
