Valentine jewellery

So it is that time of the year – when heart shaped balloons abound, pink cupcakes are eaten, and ribbon wrapped chocolate boxes are presented. Many young hearts in love will go all out with gifts and cards and romantic gestures while there will invariably be those who grouse about the need for a separate day to show love.

Valentine’s day is cheesy, we admit, however what is the harm in some old fashioned cheesiness? In a world where there is disheartening news every hour of the day, a little bit of fun and frolic and good natured flirting and love should be welcomed. So if you have a boyfriend or a husband, a mother, a brother or a father – if you have someone to love, show it this Valentine’s day.

Make sure you dress up on this day of love – what’s the problem in looking pretty after all? And besides the glam red lips and the touch of pink or red in your outfit, make sure you wear pretty jewellery that just smacks of cupid.

Hearts: This is a must motif. Wear little silver hearts on your ears or tiny little plastic colourful ones too. The silver will be a good choice if you are a working professional. Else go all out – wear colourful heart studs...a number of them if you have multiple ear holes. Wear large hoops with large hearts dangling off them, or similar hearts on a plain chain around your wrist. Go all out with a heart shaped clip in your hair or rubber bands with heart buckles on them. Of course, don’t over do the hearts – that might seem like overkill.

Crystals: Nothing is more romantic and symbolic of love as crystal jewellery – especially – you guessed it, crystal hearts. Quite the rage at one point, these pretty, dainty pieces of jewellery were part of every girl’s wardrobe, so chances are you will have one of them. Wear them as a pendant like they were meant to be worn or wear them on a bracelet or an anklet. They look very delicate and feminine and light shines off them very well.

Lockets: Just this one day, wear one of those lockets which open up to show your loved one’s face within. These are incredibly cute and will make your boyfriend feel extremely treasured. They are cheap and easily available at all junk jewellery stores as well so they won’t be difficult to find.

DIY jewellery: There are plenty things you can do to jazz up your look on Valentine’s day. Buy heart shaped beads and stick them on a pretty coloured ribbon – that can be tied around your wrist or anklet. Or make a paste of dough and water, cut out heart shapes and string ribbon through holes you have made in them – and wear them as funky neck pieces. Twist wires into heart shapes and gift it to your significant other or wear them yourself – the options are endless. All you need is some imagination and creativity.

Say it all: And of course, the quintessential Valentine day neckpiece is the “I Love You” locket – wear those around your neck for a day and you will make your loved one feel incredibly loved, if not for anything else then for the sole reason that you agreed to go through a day of embarrassment for them. Buy them or make them – they are just for that day!
