Are we intruding too much on Katrina's personal life?

It remains an undeniable fact that the biggest price that celebrities pay for their stardom is sacrificing their personal life, irrespective of how undesirable that might be. When I say celebrities, I mean eminent personalities hailing from all fields. However, the truth remains that film-stars are the worst victims of this menace. The media keeps trail of every move of theirs, and are always coming up with some or the other “story” about their lives off-camera.

Katrina Kaif, Bollywood’s Barbie girl and the heartthrob of millions, seems to be the latest target of the paparazzi. Apart from the fact that she has delivered a considerable number of hits in her brief stint in the industry so far, and is now considered to be one of the most bankable actors around, she has also been in the talks continually for her “relationship status”. When she first began her career in Bollywood, she was linked with Salman Khan, and their so-called “love saga” caught the attention of the media and the people alike. Kaif has always managed to make headlines for her make-up and break-up with this Khan, at one time being labelled as the hottest couple of Bollywood, and at others, the news of their split doing the rounds. Thereafter, vineyard was ripe with gossips of their tiffs and trifles, of how one of them hasn’t attended the other’s party, of how her decision to act opposite Shahrukh Khan was the last nail in the coffin, since Salman has not quite been in good terms with his rival Khan.

And then, her rumoured affair with Bollywood’s current favourite Ranbir Kapoor, was the talk of the town. In recent times, their alleged relationship has been the most talked-about issue in Page 3 reports. And then, about a month ago, the media was abuzz with snapshots and videos of Katrina being spotted in a bikini in a beach in Spain with beau Ranbir. Those leaked pictures of her private moments generated such a frenzy that the pictures went viral on all social networking sites and other media platforms. This matter, in fact, got stretched so far that Miss Kaif got seriously upset by this “invasion of privacy”, and even wrote an open letter to the media venting her frustration. Little could she have expected that the prying eyes of the media would let her enjoy her escapade and allow her some respite from public attention.

Even after creating such an issue, the media has been relentlessly following every move of hers and forming preconceived notions about her personal life. One day, we hear of her being keeping a safe distance with Ranbir ever since this incident, a few days later, there are reports of Miss Kaif being at loggerheads with Deepika Padukone over their common love interest Ranbir, then we get to know how she wasn’t invited to Salman Khan’s Iftar party (we know why!), then the very next hour we hear of Kaif’s and Ranbir’s respective mums lunching together, which again, lead to premature conclusions about their soon-to-happen marriage! Give her a break!

Our country is undoubtedly one of those that is quite obsessed with film-stars, and who doesn’t want to discuss off-screen lives of celebrities? But there’s a limit to everything, and clearly, at times, such lines are often violated, Katrina’s case being one of them. Her personal life is perennially under scrutiny, judgement and speculations. So much so that to a sensitive soul, it can almost appear to be an encroachment on her fundamental right to privacy. Perhaps the media should just focus more on her professional life rather than making news out of nothing, & the people, that is, we, should also introspect and learn to respect the personal space of celebrities, rather than enjoying the “gossip” that does the rounds!
