Pretty pendants - think out of the box!
One of the earliest forms of bodily adornment, pendants have come a long way. It is said that the primitive man liked to make a little hole in a piece of rock and slip a string through it, usually of grass or vine, so that it could be worn around the neck. The rocks they chose used to be beautiful; and they also often used shells and other such indigenous material for the same purpose. Since the age of Pharaohs in ancient Egypt to the current times’ women brigade, pendants have retained their charm and popularity, though they have evolved enormously along the years.
Long gone are those days when the designs of pendants used to be the same old motifs- hearts, stars or some geometrical shape. Now, the trend in pendants is to go for full-on statement pieces, such as pendants shaped as owls, butterflies, cameras, sunglasses, etc. Saying that the woman of today wears her attitude not on her sleeves, but around the neck, would not be wrong. Even eclectic shapes such as pieces of clothing, lipstick, cassettes, etc. are found, which lend a quirky playfulness to your overall look, and can transform a simple, plain outfit into a peppy one! It can be anything from petite pieces, such as the ones sported by Kate Moss, to the oversized and elaborate ornate ones, as is often seen on Rihanna, the ultra-long pendant style is being seen on many necks! You might spot it on the girl next door or on that super-famous celebrity who look up to as your style icon!
In certain varieties, the string is replaced by a ribbon, or a colourful thread, and the pendant is also quite unconventional, likewise. The animal motif is very in these days, with elephants and owls ruling the roost. Leaves, crystals, cartoon characters, short phrases or words, alphabets & even food items are quite a rage amongst the fashion-forward womenfolk. Some pendants have special symbols such as that of the musical note, or of some musical instrument, like that of a guitar, etc. that also add a whole new dimension to your look. Tribal motifs, a single horn, sea horse, dolphin etc. are other urban-chic pendant designs that have captured massive attention, and can be seen dangling from the necks of a college-going belle to a Hollywood star! Feathers are also quite popular both as the material and a motif, for pendants. Colourful feathers are being used on pendants to enhance its attractive feature even more!
So the next time you step out of home, make sure to put one of such cool and quirky pendants, as it will raise your glamour quotient more than you can anticipate!
