Diamonds, diamonds, everywhere!

Diamonds, diamonds, everywhere!

If diamonds are indeed a girl’s best friend, then any girl must have a very difficult time choosing hers. Diamonds are unique, and they are one of those natural formations which never fail to surprise you. They’re made from the same element which coal is made from, but it is amazing to not how the carbon forms the coal, and once in a while, decides to form a rare diamond. A rock, essentially, a diamond is proof of the beauty which nature has hidden within its depths. Although diamonds are most commonly sold in their colourless forms, there is more to them than you think. Diamonds are of various sizes, shapes, as well as colour. There are different kinds of diamonds which are brought in from different countries, and some are better according to their size, their depth, their weight and their clarity. Diamonds are graded as per their colour by the GIA scheme. Their colour is graded from the letters D to Z, with D being the most colourless of diamonds. There are various kinds of colours found amongst the different diamonds from all over the world. Diamonds can be red, they can be purple, they can be pink, they can be green, blue, yellow and orange. If one does not prefer the traditional colourless diamonds, they can always get more adventurous with the coloured ones. However, for jewellery, the colourless ones are used more often than not. Diamonds are very versatile, because they can be made into jewellery with gold, with silver, or with platinum. Diamonds go with white gold just as well, and they can be worn as earrings, as necklaces, as pendants, as rings, as bracelets and bangles. And for those who think out of the box, a belly-piercing, a nose pin, and even an anklet can be made with diamonds. However, staying away from Blood diamonds, or conflict diamonds in always advisable. These are diamonds which are obtained illegally from the mines, and are used to fund illegal operations. These diamonds are almost invariably connected to the mafia of the country it comes from. Generally, stores tend to avoid getting blood diamonds from any source whatsoever. This is why, diamond certification is very important for them, when they get the stones from the suppliers. These diamonds have been the cause of a lot of blood-shed, especially in the East African regions. These diamonds are very coveted, and as such, many people who have had their hands on these diamonds were killed as someone else tried to gain possession of them.

Diamond mining too, is a very dangerous business, and children would be sent into the mines because they were smaller in size, and could fit into small gaps. Since diamonds are found within coal mines, the coal dust would ruin the lungs of many, and lead to poisoning. Also, mines have a tendency to collapse, if they’re dug too deep, without any infrastructural support. It remains a fact, however, that diamonds are coveted all over the world. These stones have been wanted by men and women alike. They shine brightly, and emit an almost hypnotic glow when you look upon them. It’s a wonder that they’re so rare, so situational in their existence, and that they grow in some of the blackest depths of the earth.
