Kareena Kapoor Khan - The inimitable fashion icon!

Kareena Kapoor Khan - The inimitable fashion icon!

When she made her foray in Bollywood, not only the industry but the entire nation had huge expectations from her as an actor for after all, she belongs to the “first family” in the history of Indian cinema – the Kapoor ‘khandaan’, as it is popularly referred to. She carried with her the rich legacy of the likes of Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and so on, all of whom had left an indelible impact on the Hindi film scenario since eras! She had to live up to her name if nothing else, which itself bequeathed upon her shoulders an immense responsibility. Well, fourteen years in the industry have witnessed her tremendous growth not only as an actor and performer but a fashion icon as well!

Naturally blessed with good looks, which may also be partially accounted for, by her genes, she sure is an effortless diva of contemporary times. Her rosy complexion, sharp features and an hourglass figure are assets that any girl would envy, and to top it all she has an impeccable fashion sense that compliments her. Even though some of her initial releases might not have tasted success, she was immediately brought into notice, both in her onscreen and offscreen appearances, due to her glamorous avatars. It was as if, whatever she wears, she carries it off wonderfully, leaving everyone gaping in admiration! Be it her chic and stylish style statement in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, or her casual and carefree look of Jab We Met, her regular, fuss-free dressing style in Bodyguard, or her lavish dresses in Heroine, she has breezed through them all, escalating her position as a versatile dresser. Her style is such that it is emulated by the young and the middle-aged generation alike, and is also considered the yardstick to judge the recent crop of actors in Bollywood, such as Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor, and their immediate seniors like Sonam Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone etc.

This fashion trendsetter also almost never goes wrong in her public appearances, such as award shows, red carpets, promotional events etc. Hailed as India’s first size-zero celebrity, she wows us both in her traditional as well as western attires. A fine balance between graceful and sensuous, she can pull off a simple basic t-shirt and jeans look as she can in a stunning Manish Malhotra saree or a Payal Prathap ensemble. Many national polls have seen her emerging as the winner when it came to the title of India’s fashion icon, and why not? Whatever style she sports is a head-turner, be it the tattooed look of Ashoka, the bright saree look of Chameli, the casual kurti-patiala look of Jab We Met, or the no-nonsense look of 3 Idiots. Her sartorial sense oozes with oomph as well as elegance, and stands out in every occasion she attends. Her book ‘The Style Diary of a Bollywood Diva’ is a great gift for women who follow fashion religiously! While she has set such high standards in Bollywood in terms of fashion and style, no wonder the newbies are often judged, keeping her as the benchmark!
