Priyanka Chopra - The actress and item girl rolled into one!
This former beauty queen carved out a niche for herself in the industry quite early in her career, breaking the first rule of stardom by rising into fame with a negative character in Aitraaz. Ever since then, there was no looking back for her. She wowed one and all by choosing well-defined roles and getting into the skin of her characters with a characteristic effortlessness. Be it the uber stylish super model of Fashion or the differently abled Jhilmil in Barfi, her claim to fame and glory are many! Listed among the top actors of b-town in contemporary times, she has proven her mettle in more ways than one; besides being her acting prowess, the singer in her has also emerged, and that has given her fans even more ways to be in awe of her! What’s more, with her few recent acts, she has given the so-called item girls of Bollywood a run for their money!
With her jaw-dropping fashion sense that complements her drop-dead gorgeousness, she always conjured up an aura about her whenever she dazzled onscreen, playing one fantastic character after another. And now, she has gone a mile further by her item girl act, with the recent songs such as ‘Babli Badmaash’, ‘Pinky’, ‘Ram Chahe Leela’ etc. While some critics are of the opinion that she should stick to her stature of an actress and not demean her image with such item numbers, many fans of hers have gone to watch the movie where she delivered that one peppy number, even though that was the only screen presence she made! Out of these, it was the sensuous number from Ram-Leela that caught everyone’s notice and Chopra sizzled in this modern ‘mujra’ track! Though the film starred Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone as the lead pair, Priyanka also managed to grab quite a bit of the limelight with her song alone!
She scorched the dance floor with her grooves and moves in this unconventionally choreographed song that had a very vivacious and enigmatic feel to it. The luminescent dance floor that resembled a discotheque was an interesting contrast to the song’s treatment as a mujra, which is a dated music form. Compared to this, her other item songs are tepid while this one really did set the temperature soaring! It not only crossed one million hits but won more than million of hearts of her admirers. Also, this feisty star continued her tryst with a musical career by recently launching her third single, I Can’t Make You Love Me at a suburban pub in Mumbai. For this, she has sought support from eminent German DJ Manual Reuter to render a rave effect to her ballad, which was originally recorded by Bonnie Raitt in 1991 for Luck of the Draw, that went on to win the Grammy Award. The music video, in which Piggy Chops is paired opposite Hollywood hunk Milo Ventimiglia, has created a buzz.
Let’s hope that this multifaceted performer continues to explore her talents which will give her fans more reasons to rejoice. There is more potential in her than has been tapped, and which will surely unravel in the years to come!
