Kareena Kapoor - The reigning queen in sarees!

Kareena Kapoor - The reigning queen in sarees!

One of the most sought-after faces of Bollywood, and an unparalleled fashion icon not only for young girls but also for actors within the industry, Kareena Kapoor is a sight to behold, when she dons the trademark Indian attire – saree, in her own inimitable style and panache. Needless to say, she pulls off western outfits with equal chutzpah, but when she decides to go the saree way, we simply cannot take our eyes off her! Seemingly, she has been making most of her public appearances in saree post-marriage, and we totally love that fact.

Onscreen, her most popular image in saree was in the Ra One song, ‘Chammak Challo’, where she flaunts a red saree, designed by none other than her favourite Manish Malhotra, and draped in the style of a dhoti. The look gained such popularity and wide appeal that subsequently, that saree came to be colloquially referred to as “the Kareena wala red.” Fashion experts have also unanimously praised this look of now Mrs. Khan, some applauding her ability to carry off such a “fiery and bold” colour and that she had made the haute black almost look like redundant! The vibrant and hot shade on her was a sight to behold, so much so that it was soon on vogue and began dictating trends. There was a flood of demands for exactly that same style of saree, and thereafter it was only on a rise as Kareena followed it up with quite a few more appearances in red sarees, each managing to garner adulation.

Chiffons and georgettes as well as sheer and net sarees seem to be her staple choice when it comes to sarees, and most of the award shows and other prestigious events witness her looking phenomenal in these. Her go-to designer Manish Malhotra creates most of these wonderful pieces for her, with exquisite embroidery, sequinned details and other such unique embellishments, in often unusual pairing of colours to give her a sartorial edge over her contemporaries. Kareena’s personal style rules have also evolved over the years, which is evident in her recently-acquired classiness and elegance, which has replaced her over-the-top ornate and often gawky manner of dressing up in her earlier years. Now, with just about one or two signature pieces of jewellery, she maintains a minimal look, thus drawing all the attention to only herself and not any distracting accouterments.

The ‘Teri Meri’ song of Bodyguard that was a chartbuster in its release year also saw her flaunting a few simple yet eye-catching sarees, in black, green and orangish-yellow. Be it white or pink, yellow or black, she makes every saree cling flatteringly to her body, making her look like every inch of one of the most dazzling stars. However, perhaps the only time she went a little overboard with her boldness was at a recent occasion of her cousin Armaan Jain’s debut movie’s audio launch. She sported a dare-bare black bikini blouse with her white ans sky blue saree, but almost came to the point of suffering a wardrobe malfunction. However, Kareena is not one to repeat her mistakes, and we can- safely bet that she will continue to dazzle us with her saree appearances, looking as sensational as she does, in a graceful way.
